Nishita Rajput has so far helped pay the school fees of thousands of students

In the landscape of women changemakers in India, few stories are as inspiring as that of Nishita Rajput, a dedicated Gujarat social worker who has spent the last decade fighting to keep children in school. Her mission is simple yet powerful: no child should drop out of school because of unpaid fees.

Over the last 10 years, Nishita Rajput has raised a remarkable ₹3.80 crore to fund the education of 34,500 underprivileged children. It was originally started as a very small project, but it has since grown to become quite a bit larger and has now turned into an education support programme for thousands of families all over Gujarat.

From Door-to-Door Appeals to a Statewide School Fees Donation Movement

Nishita began her journey as a teenager. Instead of waiting for change, she chose to create it. She went door to door, speaking to local communities about the importance of helping poor students continue their studies. Her early efforts focused on girls who were at risk of dropping out due to financial hardship.

What began as a small group of children eventually developed into a formalised system in the education of children. She worked to build trust with local communities through continuous fundraising efforts and reaching out to families of children in need, to encourage them to donate the school fees.

Building a Strong NGO Education Network in India

Nishita didn’t work alone. She collaborated with schools, NGOs, and local donors to create a transparent and accountable system. By identifying families genuinely in need and directly coordinating with school administrations, she ensured that funds were used effectively.

Her work exemplifies the best of NGO education in India - it is directed at achieving positive outcomes and connects directly to ground realities. Thousands of children who formerly had little hope of receiving an education are being educated with a much higher level of dignity today.

Education Is a Right, Not Charity

At the heart of Nishita Rajput’s mission is a simple belief: education is a fundamental right. Financial struggles should never define a child’s future. By preventing dropouts and restoring hope, her initiative has protected thousands of dreams. One woman. ₹3.8 crore. 34,500 students supported.

Her stories can make us remember that sometimes the change that we desire to lead us out of a certain situation can start with a person who is determined to change something. In the case of platforms such as Schoolfee, her story supports a very strong message: that is, structured, caring education support programs can bring long-lasting social change.
